What information obligations do shipping companies and terminal operators have?

Passengers must be informed by the shipping company or, if applicable, by the port or terminal operator of delays and cancellations and their likely effects as soon as possible, but no later than 30 minutes after the scheduled departure time.

Information must be provided via the existing information channels. For example, via counter staff, ticket machines, notices, monitors, etc., and, if possible, also electronically (e-mail, SMS, etc.).

The legal basis is Art. 16 of Regulation (EU) 1177/2010.
