What information obligations do shipping companies and terminal operators have?
Passengers must be informed by the shipping company or, where applicable, by the port or terminal operator of any delays or cancellations , as well as the expected consequences , as soon as possible , but no later than 30 minutes after the scheduled departure time.
This information must be provided through the available channels. For example, through ticket office staff, ticket vending machines, posted notices, monitors, etc., as well as electronically (email, text message, etc.) whenever possible.
The legal basis is Art. 16 of Regulation (EU) 1177/2010.
