Arbitration board takes stock of the summer

School has started in eastern Austria - so the summer vacation is over again.
The main travel season of the year is also over. Time for Agency for Passenger Rights to take stock.

Between July 1 and August 31, 2023, a total of 1,175 arbitration requests were submitted to the apf from the rail and air transport sectors. This corresponds to 19 applications per day. Compared to the summer of the previous year, this represents a decrease of ten percent. In the flight sector, the apf team recorded a total of 950 arbitration applications. At 225, the number of arbitration requests submitted in the rail sector is also slightly lower than in the summer of the previous year.

Experience shows that apf receives an increasing number of inquiries about delays, cancellations, denied boarding and overbooking in the summer. Before an arbitration procedure can be opened, contact must first be established with the respective transport company. In the rail sector, there was also an increase in consultations regarding passenger rights with the KlimaTickets.

Travelers affected by cancellations, delays and other adversities can turn to the apf, where they can seek redress free of charge and commission.
