Air Berlin insolvency proceedings - What does this mean for passengers?

from Jürgen Vogl

According to the current state of knowledge, Air Berlin will no longer make any compensation payments or reimburse any care services (such as for self-paid drinks, snacks and hotel accommodation) to which passengers would be entitled due to flight delays and flight cancellations after the opening of insolvency proceedings on November 1, 2017.

However, this does not apply to the reimbursement of tickets purchased after August 15, 2017 - i.e. after the insolvency application. These tickets will continue to be refunded by the airline - according to the current status. Based on this information, apf can therefore currently only process complaints regarding ticket refunds if the ticket was purchased after August 15, 2017. All other complaints against Air Berlin can unfortunately no longer be accepted.

However, outstanding claims can be asserted after the opening of insolvency proceedings within the framework of the procedure provided for by law. For this purpose, Air Berlin will send all passengers - at a later date - an unsolicited form. According to the current state of information, insolvency creditors must use this form to submit their claims by February 1, 2018, stating the reason and amount, to the following address:

Note from apf: It is to be feared that your claim can most likely only be satisfied to the extent of a very small quota.
