Flight cancellation and flight delay with missed connecting flight
from Jürgen Vogl
In September 2015, the outbound flight from Linz to Frankfurt with a connecting flight to Dublin was canceled. The passengers were then transported to Vienna by shuttle bus and flown to their destination the following day. Furthermore, due to a delay on the return flight from Dublin to Frankfurt, the passengers were unable to reach their connecting flight from Frankfurt to Linz, as a result of which the passengers concerned were rebooked on another flight and reached their destination one day late again.
After the airline refused to respond to the passengers' claims, they turned to the apf. The Agency for Passenger Rights was able to mediate positively; the airline paid the compensation payment of 400 euros per flight and passenger for the outward and return flights, as stipulated in the Passenger Rights Regulation. The group of eight passengers thus received a total compensation amount of 6,400 euros, as the specific case involved a flight distance of between 1,500 and 3,500 kilometers.
If you are also affected by a flight delay or cancellation, you can find out here what rights you have and what the airline must offer or pay you.

How does the apf go about mediating between the passenger and the airline?
Mediation is carried out by apf contacting the company after we have received your complaint. The airline will be given a brief description of the situation, the legal claims and informed that an arbitration procedure will be opened for clarification. The airline then has three weeks to respond to the apf. If both parties, i.e. you and the airline, accept the solution proposed by apf, they agree to a so-called effective out-of-court settlement. We have already established a very good working relationship with many airlines. This is the reason why in most cases apf achieves a quick solution within a few days.
We have summarized all information about the arbitration procedure for you on the apf website
