Flight delay

from Jürgen Vogl

The flight from Larnaca landed in Vienna-Schwechat with a delay of around seven hours. The passengers then lodged a complaint with the airline to request compensation. According to the EU regulation, passengers are entitled to a compensation payment if a flight arrives more than three hours later at its final destination. The amount depends on the route booked and is between 250 and 600 euros. In our case, which involves a flight distance of between 1,500 kilometers and 3,500 kilometers, each passenger is entitled to a compensation payment of 400 euros. As the airline only offered a flight voucher for 100 euros as compensation, the passengers contacted apf. Within six days, apf obtained the compensation payment of 800 euros (400 euros per person) and a reimbursement of 30 euros (15 euros per person) for meals, which had previously been calculated at seven euros for a seven-hour delay, which was not appropriate.

How does apf go about obtaining compensation and reimbursement for meals?
Mediation is carried out by apf contacting the company after we have received your complaint. The airline will be given a brief description of the situation, the legal claims and informed that an arbitration procedure will be opened for clarification. The airline then has three weeks to respond to the apf. If both parties, i.e. you and the airline, accept apf's proposed solution, they agree to a so-called effective out-of-court settlement. We have already established a very good working relationship with many airlines. This is the reason why in most cases apf achieves a quick solution within a few days.

It is important that you keep all receipts for drinks and snacks, as the airline is not obliged to reimburse you for meals if you cannot provide any receipts.
