Flight: Tips for passengers before boarding a flight
from Armin Trojer
The apf generally recommends that passengers
- It is important to have all the documents required for the flight (e.g. passport, visa, conditions of carriage for minors, etc.). You can find out which documents you need directly from the airline (e.g. in the conditions of carriage) and on the homepage of the Austrian Foreign Ministry.
- Passengers should check the status of their flight online the day before - because if there is a cancellation, it may be possible to avoid a double journey to the airport.
- If possible, apf also recommends checking in online in advance.
- In any case, travelers should find out in advance when it is best to be at the airport and plan for possible delays (e.g. due to security checks). During peak travel times, it is always advisable to allow for a time buffer. Passengers should ask the airline and the respective airport directly for information about the specified times.
- If there are problems or a flight irregularity - such as a cancellation or delay - passengers should document everything where possible: Photos of display boards, confirmations from the relevant staff, keeping invoices and receipts, etc.
- Air travelers should know their rights! Comprehensive information on the rights of passengers in air travel is available at passagier.at.
