Bus: Problems with Hungarian bus company
from Jürgen Vogl
According to the Bus Passenger Rights Regulation (Regulation (EU) No. 181/2011), in the event of a cancellation, passengers are entitled to either a full refund of the cost of the ticket or to be offered alternative transport. If the company does not offer this choice, those affected are also entitled to compensation amounting to 50 percent of the ticket costs. As part of an arbitration procedure, apf succeeded in having the ticket costs reimbursed.
However, as the bus company was not prepared to pay out the additional compensation to which the passengers were entitled in any of the cases, apf filed a complaint with the competent district administrative authority. In addition, apf informed the Hungarian enforcement body about these cases as part of the consumer authority cooperation in order to ensure the enforcement of passenger rights in accordance with the EU Bus Passenger Rights Regulation in the future.
