Flight: Alternative transportation in the event of flight cancellation

from Jürgen Vogl

Passengers repeatedly tell apf that they were told by airline employees - especially in exceptional situations such as the data transfer mishap at Vienna-Schwechat Airport in August 2016 - that they could organize a transfer themselves and that this would be reimbursed in full. If passengers then submit the costs incurred for reimbursement in good faith, reimbursement is often refused and only the original ticket costs are refunded, which were usually significantly lower. It is therefore important to insist on written confirmation of the promise of reimbursement of self-bookings in the case of such information, as otherwise the airline cannot be held liable for such costs in the event of a dispute, or can only be held liable with difficulty.
