KlimaTicket Austria: Compensation for delays

Compensation at KlimaTicket Austria

KlimaTicket Austria is a product of One Mobility Ticketing GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology(BMK).

If the statutory punctuality level of 93 percent[nbsp][nbsp]for regional and long-distance trains is not achieved for at least one month, those affected will receive compensation at the end of the annual ticket's period of validity.

For ÖBB-Personenverkehr this concerns: Regional train (R), Regional Express (REX), cityjet express (CJX), S-Bahn (S), Eurocity (EC), Intercity (ÖBB-IC or IC), ICE, Railjet (RJ), Railjet Xpress (RJX) or D-train (D).

Those affected are entitled to ten percent of the compensation base in one month.

The basis for compensation is the ticket price minus the price shares for transportation on scheduled bus services (buses), urban transport and non-networked branch lines.

The amount of the compensation base can be found at klimaticket or in this document.
For ÖBB-Personenverkehr this is currently 494.12 euros, for WESTbahn 19.07 euros.

For each month in which the statutory punctuality rate of 93 percent is not achieved, people in possession of the KlimaTicket Österreich receive 4.12 euros in compensation from ÖBB-Personenverkehr .

For all other railroad companies, the maximum compensation amount is less than four euros.
Amounts of less than four euros can be excluded from payment by the railroad companies - this makes ÖBB-Personenverkehr de facto the only company that pays compensation for delays with the KlimaTicket Österreich.

The apf has illustrated this with an example calculation:

[nbsp]Assumption: the punctuality level was not achieved in two months within the validity period of KlimaTicket :

EUR 494.12 / 12 months = EUR 41.17 (cost share of ÖBB-PV at KlimaTicket Austria per month)
10% of EUR 41.17 = EUR 4.12 (compensation basis per month of delay)
EUR 4.12 x 2 months of delay = EUR 8.24 (if the punctuality level of 93% was NOT met in two months)

Regional KlimaTickets from the transport associations

The regional Klimaticket the seven transport associations in Austria are to be distinguished from the KlimaTicket Austria.
KlimaTicket MetropolRegion, KlimaTicket Region, KlimaTicket Tirol, Kärnten Ticket, KlimaTicket OÖ, KlimaTicket Salzburg, KlimaTicket Steiermark, KlimaTicket VMOBIL)

This form of annual ticket is subject to a statutory punctuality rate of 95% for regional trains. If this level is not met in a month of validity, holders of regional climate tickets will automatically receive a refund of at least ten percent of the monthly fare for the rail portion from the respective railroad company after the end of the period of validity (see calculation example above; for ÖBB-Personenverkehr , the compensation percentage is exactly ten percent).

How do I claim compensation for delay?

Step 1 (only KlimaTicket Austria): Allow OneMobility to pass on data to the rail companies

In order to assert a claim for compensation, it is necessary to allow One Mobility GmbH to pass on data to the rail companies.
Consent can be given directly in the KlimaTicket customer account at www.klimaticket.at under "My cards". It may take a few days or weeks for the data to be forwarded to the rail companies.

Step 2: Registration with ÖBB-Personenverkehr

You must then register with ÖBB-Personenverkehr . You can register with ÖBB-Personenverkehr via the website at https://www.oebb.at/Fahrgastrechte or at the ticket counter/Service Center. After clicking on the "KlimaTicket" tile, the corresponding annual pass number and password must be entered. If you do not yet have the password, you will need to register for the first time.

Step 3: Receive money after the annual pass expires

Once the validity period of the KlimaTicket Austria has expired, the amount to be refunded will be automatically transferred to your specified account.
However, the apf recommends that you check your registration again before the validity period expires.
