Passenger rights on Intercity buses between Graz and Klagenfurt
Public transport between Graz and Klagenfurt is an important axis in the Austrian transport network. The intercity buses operated by ÖBB-Personenverkehr connect the two provincial capitals every hour and therefore play a crucial role for travelers in southern Austria. But what happens if passengers have purchased a ticket for a particular bus connection but are still not taken on board? What rights do you have in such situations? In this blog post, we will take a closer look at passenger rights on intercity buses and explain how the Agency for Passenger Rights can help you free of charge in such cases.
Your right to transportation
From a legal point of view, ÖBB Personenverkehr intercity buses have the same status as trains. This means that passengers who have purchased tickets for a specific bus connection (e.g. Graz [nbsp]- [nbsp]Wolfsberg) have the right to transportation. If, for any reason, transportation is not possible at the booked time, the transport company is obliged to provide substitute transportation. As a rule, substitute transportation should be available in less than 100 minutes. This is particularly important if the bus service is offered every hour. In this case, the next available bus is the possible replacement transport to which the passenger will be rebooked.
Compensation claims
In such a case, it can be assumed that passengers will reach their destinations with a delay of more than one hour. Passengers with a one-way ticket are therefore entitled to compensation for the delay. This amounts to 25 percent of the ticket price from a delay of 60 minutes or 50 percent of the ticket price from 120 minutes.
The apf recommends that passengers check availability on intercity buses in advance or make a seat reservation on busy travel days. In addition, the denied boarding should be sufficiently documented (cell phone photos).
The Agency for Passenger Rights helps free of charge
If you have encountered problems when traveling on an intercity bus, whether due to denied boarding, delays or the bus breaking down, you can contact the ÖBB-Personenverkehr complaints management. The Agency for Passenger Rights is available to passengers free of charge and can help to enforce passenger rights if no agreement has been reached between the passenger and the company in advance.
