Bus trip canceled

from Jürgen Vogl

Two passengers bought tickets for the journey from Prague to Vienna. When they wanted to board the bus marked "Vienna" at the bus station in Prague, the bus driver said that this was not the bus to Vienna and refused to take them on board. As there was no other bus to Vienna, passengers who have to cancel a journey can choose between a refund of their ticket or later transportation under comparable conditions. If these two options are not offered, compensation amounting to 50 percent of these costs is added to the right to reimbursement of the ticket costs. the passengers were forced to buy a train ticket to Vienna. The bus company ignored their complaint, so they turned to the apf. Within two weeks, the apf managed to get the bus company to cover the cost of the rail ticket they had bought instead.

How does the apf go about mediating between passengers and a bus company?
The apf mediates by sending an e-mail to the bus company after we have received your complaint. After we have contacted the bus company concerned, it generally has three weeks to send a response to apf. If both parties, i.e. you and the bus company, accept the solution proposed by apf, they agree to a so-called effective out-of-court settlement. In most cases, apf already achieves a quick solution.
